In this practical, beginner-friendly workshop, participants will move from traditional coding concepts to modern Content Management Systems (CMS) by building a complete website using WordPress, the world’s most popular CMS. The session is designed for aspiring developers, designers, educators, and entrepreneurs who want to understand how websites are built and managed efficiently—without losing sight of core web fundamentals.
Through guided, hands-on activities, attendees will learn how WordPress bridges the gap between hard-coding and scalable website management. By the end of the 3-hour workshop, each participant will have a functional, mobile-responsive website and a clear understanding of how coding knowledge enhances CMS-based development.
What we will build — in 7 easy steps:
1. Install WordPress locally or online for development and testing
2. Log in to the WordPress Dashboard and understand the admin interface
3. Create and configure Pages for a real-world website structure
4. Select and customize a Theme to control design and layout
5. Set up a Navigation Menu for smooth site navigation
6. Create Posts for dynamic, blog-style content
7. Add and integrate Plugins to extend functionality (e.g. forms, e-commerce, libraries)
By the end of the session, participants will be confident using WordPress to create and manage websites, understand when to code versus when to rely on a CMS, and know how to host and continue learning and experimenting after WordCamp Mukono 2026.
