After earning my bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Makerere University, I faced challenges securing a job in the tech industry, as companies were hesitant to hire women for technical roles. Determined to carve out a path for myself and achieve financial stability, I chose to become self-employed as a website developer. I taught myself HTML, PHP, MySQL, and graphics design software, which became the foundation of my career in web design. This journey eventually led me to a role as a website designer at a small IT firm, where I discovered the potential of content management systems (CMS) like WordPress. WordPress, in particular, emerged as my preferred platform for building websites quickly and effectively.
Today, WordPress is my primary tool for creating beautiful, functional websites. I also share my expertise with early-career and unemployed women, especially those who face barriers due to a lack of programming skills. Through CMS training, I teach them how to use platforms like WordPress to share content, sell goods, and even create jobs as website designers, administrators, or bloggers all without needing to learn complex programming languages like HTML5, PHP, or JavaScript.
My passion for design drives me to stay updated with the latest trends and transformations in website development, particularly within the WordPress ecosystem. I aspire to become a user interface designer, leveraging tools like JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS to create visually appealing and user-friendly websites. I believe pursuing a graduate degree in Computer Science will further enhance my skills and expand my knowledge of digital design technologies, allowing me to make an even greater impact in the world of WordPress and beyond.
